Q: What kinds of items can be bought and sold on ChemDeals?
A: Chemicals bought and sold through ChemDeals include chemicals utilized in a wide range of specialties including Paints & Coatings, Rubber Compounding, Adhesives & Sealants, Cleaning Products, Food Products, Plastics, Water Treatment, Wire & Cable, Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics, and Research. Please keep in mind that all postings should have a value of at least $500, and they must be surplus, overstock, obsolete, off-specification, or slow-moving materials. If you have any concerns about an item you would like to post, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Q: How do I get a ChemDeals account?
A: To be eligible for a ChemDeals account, you must have authority within your company to purchase and/or sell industrial chemicals. See the Account Holder Agreement for the complete requirements. If you meet these requirements, simply fill out the Application.

Q: Are there any membership fees?
A: ChemDeals does not charge any membership fees, annual fees, or fees to post items for sale.

Q: Can I decide what e-mail I receive from ChemDeals?
A: You can change all of your e-mail preferences by going to your Update Account page.

Q: Will I remain anonymous when I use ChemDeals?
A: At ChemDeals, we respect your wish for confidentiality (click here to view our Privacy Policy). Purchasers' questions:

Q: Can I be notified when items I'm interested in become available for sale?
A: Use the MyChemseek™ to save searches and progressively build your own personalized portfolio of items of interest. You can then receive automatic e-mail updates each day, week, or month showing you all of the new items of interest.

Q: How do I make an offer on an item?
A: After finding an item that you wish to purchase, just click on the "Submit an Offer" button on the Posting Details screen. You will then enter the details of your offer, confirm your shipping address, and click on "Submit". After reviewing the offer on the next screen, click on "Confirm" to officially enter your offer.

Q: How much should I offer for a material that I am interested in?
A: When making offers on materials that you are interested in purchasing, please remember that all shipping and handling charges are included in the price that you offer. The price you offer is the final delivered price for the item. The condition and specifications of the item will also help determine how close to the retail price you should offer. For many items, a suggested offer price will be available.

Q: Can an offer be withdrawn?
A: You may leave your offer outstanding for as long as you wish, and you always have the ability to withdraw an offer at any time before being accepted by the seller. This allows you to retain control over your purchases. Once your offer has been accepted, you are required to complete the transaction.

Q: What happens when my offer is accepted?
A: When the seller responds, you will receive an e-mail alerting you that a response has been given. If your offer has been accepted, you will find it listed as an order in the Current Purchases section of your account. If you have requested a sample and/or certificate of analysis, we will send it to you as quickly as possible. Please confirm the acceptability of the sample and/or certificate of analysis as soon as possible.
You will need to fax your purchase order to ChemDeals as soon as possible. An invoice will be generated and sent to you when the material has been shipped.

Q: What happens if my offer is rejected?
A: If the seller rejects your offer, you will have the opportunity to easily resubmit your offer with a higher price as long as that material remains available. You can resubmit your offer right from the Offers section of your Open Activity by clicking on the Declined Offer icon - there's no need to search for the posting again! If the “X” icon appears, it means that the material is no longer available, and you will not be able to submit another offer on it.

Q: What should I do if I need more information about a particular material?
A: If you are interested in a particular item, but need to know more about it before making your offer, click on the "Ask the Seller a Question" button located on the complete item details screen.
Type your message in the box provided and click "Submit". We will receive this message and forward your inquiry to the seller. If you require a certificate of analysis or a certificate of origin, we will instruct the seller to fax the certificate to us. When we receive a response from the seller, we will then forward it to you.

Q: Do I have to pay shipping charges?
A: The total price that you offer includes all charges for shipping the material to the specified ship-to address. If your offer is accepted, this is the total price you will pay; there are no additional shipping charges, unless you have explicitly made a special arrangement with ChemDeals.

Q: Is there any guarantee of product quality?
A: ChemDeals guarantees that the materials you purchase through ChemDeals will meet all the specifications that are given in the product posting. If the seller seriously misrepresents a material on ChemDeals, then that material may be returned at no cost to you. Please refer to the Account Holder Agreement for more details.

Q: Does ChemDeals offer shipment tracking?
A: Yes, ChemDeals offers its clients automated shipment tracking. After your offer is accepted, track your shipment by going to the Current Purchases screen of your account and clicking on the "Track Shipment" link next to the order. This will automatically show you the current status of your shipment.

Sellers' questions:

Q: How do I sell an item on ChemDeals?
A: Login to your account and select "Post (Sell)" from the Buy/Sell menu at the top of any screen. Fill out the details of your material and submit the form. Your material is instantly posted for the ChemDeals community to view! Keep in mind that you are responsible for providing complete and accurate information regarding your product. If you have a large list of items to post, you may fax or e-mail all of the required information to your account manager and we will post the items for you.

Q: Are there any fees for posting an item for sale?
A: There are no fees for posting items for sale on ChemDeals. Since you're not obligated to sell items that you post either, there's absolutely no risk to post your products on ChemDeals.

Q: Am I obligated to sell the item through ChemDeals once I post it?
A: Unlike materials auctions, we do not require you to sell your item through ChemDeals once you post it. In addition, you are not required to leave your item posted on ChemDeals for any length of time. That means there is no risk to post your item for sale; if you find a better price for your item elsewhere, you are free to take it. You must, however, immediately remove your posting if the item is no longer available for sale.

Q: How long does my product posting remain on the website?
A: Your product can remain posted until it sells. After 90 days, you can renew your posting for another 90 days with just a click. At any time, you can renew an item for another 90 days by clicking on the “X” icon and selecting "Renew".

Q: Can I set a minimum offer price on my postings?
A: Yes, when you post your item, you can choose to see only the offers that are above the minimum that you set or you can choose to see all offers that are placed on your item. Only set a minimum if you will absolutely not consider offers below that amount.

Q: Can I sell opened, partial, or damaged containers?
A: Material in opened, partially full, or damaged containers may be posted for sale on ChemDeals. All items posted on ChemDeals, however, should have a market value of $500 or more. If you wish to post these items, we request that you fully and accurately describe the material and packaging in the "Additional Notes" field of the posting form.

Q: How can I correct a mistake that I made in a posting?
A: If you realize that there is a mistake in a posting that has already been submitted to ChemDeals, you must either contact your account manager or remove the posting and repost the item correctly.

Q: How do I remove a posting?
A: You may remove your posting from the ChemDeals website by going to the Postings section of your Open Activity and clicking on the “NA” icon next to your posting and then clicking "delete". You must reject all offers that you have received on a particular posting before you can delete the posting.

Q: I received an offer on my posting. Now what do I do?
A: You will receive an e-mail notification when you receive any offer that exceeds the minimum offer price that you set when you entered the posting (you may request to not receive these e-mails in your Update Account page). When you receive this e-mail, login to your ChemDeals account and go to the “Posts and Offers I’ve Received” section of your open activity. Please respond to all offers as soon as possible, as a courtesy to other users.

Q: Will I receive a purchase order and bill of lading?
A: Yes. Once the order has been activated, ChemDeals will fax you a signed purchase order for the material and a bill of lading on which to release your sold item.

Q: When will I receive payment for an item I sell?
A: ChemDeals issues a ChemDeals Purchase Order to every seller at the time the offer is accepted. Our policy is to pay all sellers promptly 30 days from the date that the item is picked up from your location by the freight carrier.

Q: How do I send a sample or certificate of analysis if one is requested?
A: If you accept an offer that requests a sample of the material, then you will need to send the sample to ChemDeals. In the offer, the buyer will specify the size of the sample that is required. Please clearly label the sample with the material name and send samples to the ChemDeals mailing address, which can be found in the Contact Us section.
When a buyer requests a certificate of analysis, please fax it to ChemDeals as soon as possible.
